On Saturday, 21 April the acclaimed piano duo Sandra and Jeroen van Veen will give a unique ligconcert®, a lying-down concert, in the Aa Church – unique because the concert can be enjoyed lying down. You can bring your own mat to lie on or you can just sit on a chair and enjoy the wonderful acoustics and the serene atmosphere of the Aa Church. This evening the Canto Ostinato will be played on two grand pianos.
Sandra and Jeroen van Veen
Sandra and Jeroen van Veen have been performing together for more than twenty years, either on one or on two grand pianos. Sandra Mol (1968) and Jeroen van Veen (1969) met in 1987 while improvising on the piano when they were both students at the conservatory in Utrecht. Their shared passion for music and performing has taken them to concert halls in America, Canada, Russia and many other countries. Their recording of the Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt received excellent reviews and Ten Holt himself declared it the best recording ever made of his work.
The Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt became world famous with his Canto Ostinato, possibly the best-known piece of Dutch classical music. It has been performed countless times in countless variations. The Canto Ostinato was composed in the 1970s and is usually played on two or four pianos. The sound is both exhilarating and intoxicating thanks to its idiosyncratic structure.
