Jazz- and rhythm & blues
On the afternoon of Sunday, February 25th the Alto Kwartet will perform in concert at the church in Klein Wetsinge. The Alto Kwartet's repertoire includes legendary jazz and rhythm & blues numbers as well as some of their own. The quartet is comprised of Julia Flenter (baritone sax/vocals/arrangements), Janine ter Steege (alto sax), Hugo Beukema (tenor sax) and Hans Bosch (alto sax/arrangements).
Jazz Café Alto
The Alto Kwartet took its name from the Alto, an illustrious jazz café in the centre of Groningen. The last concert given there, on 20 March 2017, featured a saxophone quartet accompanied by bass and drums and conducted by Hans Bosch. Hugo Beukema, the café’s founder and proprietor, also played in the band that night. The enthusiastic audience response led to the birth of the Alto Kwartet. Their repertoire spans a century of jazz and R&B highlights, from 1900 till now.
