On Sunday 20 November, under the baton of Theo van Kruistum, Jong Vocaal Groningen and Slagwerkensemble Appingedam (Percussion Ensemble Appingedam) will perform in concert at the Aa Church.
The programme includes music by Orff (O Fortuna) and a wonderful piece by Råberg (The Tyger). Closer to home is a piece composed by a member of the choir, Tobias Bethlehem, (Wie zal ik zijn).
Jong Vocaal Groningen
Jong Vocaal Groningen has performed in concert throughout Europa and has acquired an outstanding reputation. For twenty years the choir was directed by voice teacher Nanny ter Wiel, who was followed up by Merlijn Wackers in February 2016. The repertoire is diverse: songs from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods, as well as music by Schubert and more contemporary composers, from opera to musical. In 2006, 2012 and 2016 the ensemble was awarded first prize at a choir festival on the island of Schiermonnikoog. Many of the singers in the choir have won prizes at various competitions, such as the Prinses Christina Concours and the German Concours Jugend Musiziert. The choir has been on several concert tours to Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland and Berlin. On these occasions two live CD’s were recorded.
The ensemble often performs in Germany and the Netherlands. In 2015 Jong Vocaal Groningen was one of ten European choirs who participated in the international Cantarode festival. The choir is accompanied by Percussion Ensemble Appingedam for Advent concerts and for New Year's concerts they are joined by the Drents Symfonie Orkest (the symphony orchestra of Drenthe).
