Piano and cello
On Sunday 26 February pianist and cellist Lisa Franken will give a recital at the church in Klein Wetsinge at 3 in the afternoon.
Lisa Franken started playing piano and cello when she was only five years old. She has studied at such prestigious conservatories as the Musikhochschule in Cologne, the Conservatorium Maastricht and the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and graduated cum laude with a master’s degree in music. She took additional classes for cello at the Tibor Varga Academie in Sion (Switzerland) and the Kronberg Academy in Kronberg (Germany) and piano master classes at the Salzburger Mozarteum Sommerakademie.
She has earned numerous awards for piano and cello recitals at international competitions for both solo and chamber music. She has performed on both instruments as a soloist and in a chamber orchestra. In 2013 she was a substitute cellist for the orchestra of Aken, Germany. Lisa lives in the Netherlands and has given recitals in cities all over Western Europe and Russia. During the concert in Klein Wetsinge she will alternate between cello and piano. On the programme are works by J.S. Bach, F. Schubert, F. Chopin, I. Albeniz, G. Cassado and A. Piazzola.
The church in Klein Wetsinge
The church in Klein Wetsinge is located halfway between the towns of Sauwerd and Winsum and has a panoramic view of the scenic Reitdiep area. The church was restored and completely refurbished by the Stichting Oude Groninger Kerken in 2014. Visitors are cordially welcomed by managers Nicolaas and Inez Geenen, both born and bred in Groningen. On offer are an extensive lunch and drinks menu, including sandwiches, soups and salads. Visitors can climb upstairs to see the unique clockwork and to enjoy the views of the beautiful Reitdiep valley.
