Cultural Sunday: saxophonist Tineke Postma

On the afternoon of Sunday October 15th saxophonist Tineke Postma will perform in concert on Cultural Sunday at the church in Leegkerk.

A household name in the jazz scene
Saxophonist Tineke Postma is a household name in the jazz scene at home in The Netherlands and abroad. In 2015 she won the Buma Boy Edgar Prize. The Evening Standard called her ‘One of the leading ladies in jazz’ and the American Downbeat Polls listed her as a Rising Star in the soprano and alt sax category several years in a row. Tineke has released 6 CDs under her own name, including her latest ‘Sonic Halo’(2014), with her former mentor Greg Osby. Tineke is also featured on Grammy award-winning The Mosaic Project by Terri Lyne Carrington and Beautiful by Dianne Reeves.

The Tineke Postma Quartet have toured since 2006 and have played at many international festivals and venues such as North Sea Jazz, the Tokyo Jazz Festival and the Winter Jazz Fest in New York. Their album The Dawn of Light won the Edison Jazz National. On International Jazz Day 2012 she played with her idol Wayne Shorter at the United Nations Assembly Hall in New York.Tineke has taught at the Hochschule OsnabrĪ‹ck in Germany and at the Hanzehogeschool in Groningen since 2011.

This afternoon Tineke will perform her own repertoire in a solo concert, a repertoire clearly influenced by classical music and her New York years.

Cultural Sunday
All year round Bijzondere Locaties Groningen and De Culturele Onderneming organize cultural Sunday afternoons at the church in Leegkerk. These afternoons cover a wide variety of topics. Previous guests have included Griet Op de Beeck, Hans Renner, Caspar Janssen, Auke Hulst, Annegreet van Bergen, Wim Brands, Meindert Talma, Miranda van Kralingen, Frank Westerman and Mathijs Deen.
