Presentation Schnitger's Dream Award
Award winning organist Lien van der Vliet has invited both the old as well as the new organist of the Dom Church in Utrecht for the presentation of the Schnitger’s Dream Prize. Jan Jansen and Jan Hage will pull out all the stops when they improvise on the famous Schnitger organ in the Aa Church.
Jan Jansen is an accomplished and versatile musician: he studied organ, harpsichord and piano at the Utrecht Conservatorium. Besides the soloist diplomas he was also awarded the Prix d’Excellence for organ. He has performed with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, to name but a few. He also plays chamber music with his children David (organ and harpsichord), Maarten (cello) and Janine Jansen (violin).
Jan Hage is one of today’s most versatile and virtuoso organists. He has won many prizes and is a staunch advocate of contemporary organ music. He has performed with the likes of Slagwerkgroep Den Haag, the Asko Ensemble and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. He has composed works for organ and various ensembles and has been the Dom Church organist since 2011.
This concert is one in the Schnitger’s Dream series of concerts. The Aa Church boasts an organ built by Arp Schnitger (1648-1719), the renowned organ builder from Hamburg. After many years of restoration the organ was reinstated in 2011. Since then the Schnitger’s Dream concerts have focused on this organ with accessible and inspirational programmes themed 'tradition and renewal'.
