Work by amateur artists

From 26 June to 14 July paintings by amateur artists are on display at the church in Klein Wetsinge

Art for everyone

During the entire month of July ‘art by everyone’ is on display at over a thousand venues throughout the country for everyone to enjoy. This cultural event gives creative people an opportunity to display what they do in their spare time, from sculpting to rapping, from singing in a choir to drawing or performing stand-up comedy.

Amateur artists

In the Klein Wetsinge church paintings made by more than 30 amateur artists will be on show. All the artists live in Winsum or the surrounding area and all are students of Marleen Bakker. Marleen has taught painting classes since 2013 in Sauwerd and in Winsum. Some of the exhibiting artists have lots of experience while others have little or none. What they all have in common is their great enthusiasm and love of painting. The works display a wide variety of subjects and styles: from portraits to landscapes or still lifes, colourful, impressionistic or realistic. The diversity will surprise you!

The church in Klein Wetsinge

The church in Klein Wetsinge is located halfway between the towns of Sauwerd and Winsum and has a panoramic view of the scenic Reitdiep area. The church, which dates from 1840, was restored to its former glory by the Stichting Oude Groninger Kerken in 2014 and is now ultimately suitable for meetings, lectures, concerts and receptions. Visitors are cordially welcomed by managers Nicolaas and Inez Geenen, both born and bred in Groningen. They earned their spurs in Limburg, where they had their own restaurant for twenty years. Whenever possible they cook using organic products and traditional methods.

Open daily

The church is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. On offer are an extensive lunch and drinks menu, including sandwiches, soups and salads. Visitors can climb upstairs to see the unique clockwork and to enjoy the vistas of the beautiful Reitdiep valley.
