Once again the Aa Church will be transformed into a cinema during the International Film Festival Rotterdam in Groningen. This year we present the 1929 film Pandora’s Box, with live organ music.
Die Büchse der Pandora
Pandora’s Box is an undisputed masterpiece of silent cinema, a sensual and controversial classic directed by G.W. Pabst in 1929. Louise Brooks stars as the irresistible Lulu, who is both femme fatale and victim. Brooks moved to Europe especially for this role and snatched it from Marlene Dietrich.
Geert Bierling will provide live accompaniment to her dramatic story on the historic Schnitger organ. Bierling is the official organist and carillonist of the city of Rotterdam; he also plays harmonium and harpsichord.
This film is presented in cooperation with the Groninger Forum and the International Film Festival Rotterdam in Groningen.
