An Evening with David Bowie
On Friday 11 December the Aa Church is presenting a David Bowie evening Let’s Bowie in conjunction with the David Bowie exhibition in the Groninger Museum. The evening will be held in style, with lots of Bowie colours, a concert and a talk show. The sensational Wende Snijders will sing five covers as well as some of her own songs. One of the guests, a poet, is bringing an original Bowie jacket.
This evening a number of sharp thinkers will do some post-modern stocktaking. Does Bowie have any lasting artistic value or, looking back, was the packaging more important than the content? Suddenly a musical surprise emanates from the historical Schnitger organ high up in the church. Elly de Waard, Sebastiaan Vos, Ad Verbrugge and Gerry Arling will be performing, as well as Wende Snijders.
Singer-songwriter Wende Snijders is a graduate of the Amsterdam Theatre School. She was widely acclaimed for her interpretation of French chansons. Since then she has won several prizes and performed for sell-out audiences. In 2009 she surprised her fans when she switched from chansons to dance, pop and rock. Her latest album Last Resistance was recorded in Berlin. Earlier this year she made her acting debut in the film Zurich.
From December 11th the successful exhibition David Bowie is on view in the Groninger Museum. This exhibition is the first international retrospective of Bowie’s extraordinary career. More than three hundred objects from the David Bowie Archive, including handwritten lyrics, original costumes, photographs, designs for albums and other rare objects covering the past fifty years were brought together for the very first time. They demonstrate how Bowie’s work has been influenced by and has had an influence on various movements in art, design, theatre and contemporary culture.
The exhibition started in 2013 in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and was on display there for almost six months. Amongst the over 300.000 visitors were many international stars.
