Lieve Joris in De Amshoff
Lieve Joris is our literary guest on Sunday, September 28th in the series Schrijver in de kerk (Authors in the church) in De Amshoff in Kiel-Windeweer.
In May Lieve Joris won the VPRO Bob den Uyl Award 2014, the award for the best travel book of the past year, for her book Op de vleugels van de draak (On the wings of the dragon).
Godelieve ‘Lieve’ Elisabeth Achiel Micheline Joris (Neerpelt, 14 June 1953) is a Flemish writer of travel stories. She was the fifth child in a family of nine. Her father worked for the tax department, her mother was a miller’s daughter. After boarding school Joris studied Psychology for a few years in Louvain, and later went to America to work as an au-pair and to travel around the country. In 1975 she went to the Netherlands where she studied at the School for Journalism in Utrecht. She later moved to Amsterdam and after completing her studies she worked for Haagse Post, NRC and the monthly magazine Avenue. After ten years of writing for Haagse Post she began writing books as well. Her debut book was De Golf in 1986. Her writing is journalistic and literary.
