St. Matthew Passion in the Aa Church
On Saturday 12 March the Luthers Bach Ensemble perform the St. Matthew Passion in the Aa Church.
Although Bach did not compose the St. Matthew Passion as an opera, both the music and the text have opera-like aspects. The compelling narrative recounts the dramatic events leading up to an inevitable destiny. The St. Matthew Passion is performed by a double choir, this year comprised of members of the Luthers Bach Ensemble project choir, accompanied by the LBE baroque orchestra. In this ‘traditional’ version of the St. Matthew Passion the soloists taking the roles of the Evangelist and Jesus will sing from memory, as they did last year in the LBE’s acclaimed semi-staged version.
