Open Day Town Hall Usquert
On Thursday August 21st the Town Hall in Usquert opens its doors to the public and welcomes everyone who wants to visit this exceptional building. The open day runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The former town hall in Usquert is an architectural monument that was designed by the famous architect from Amsterdam, Hendrik Petrus Berlage. The town hall, named after him, is one of two projects that were realized in the province of Groningen and the only town hall Berlage ever built.
The town hall in Usquert displays a unity between the interior and the exterior which is also seen in Berlage’s other designs. The monumental building, with its flat roofs and high tower, is constructed mainly of brick, concrete and iron. Berlage believed that these honest building materials should not be concealed. The glazed wall and floor tiles, the stained glass windows as well as the doors and lintels of the interior are in perfect harmony with the exterior of the building.
The open day is organised by the Hendrick de Keyser Foundation.
Admission is free for members and non-members.
