Opening concert Schnitger Festival 2018
This edition of the Schnitger Festival, which is themed ‘Italy’ opens with the traditional ambulatory concert on Friday evening, 19 October: one concert that takes us from the Martinikerk to the Der Aa-kerk, where two famous organs will be played by four famous organists.
In the Martini Church star organist Matteo Imbruno will perform music of the Italian Baroque era. This concert will last approximately 40 minutes and afterwards we will walk across the Grote Markt and the Vismarkt to the Der Aa-kerk where three other organists await us for the second part of the concert. Petra Vreeswijk will perform a French repertoire on the German baroque organ. Ko Zwanenburg will play 20th century music and in conclusion Sander van Houten will return to the Italian theme with his interpretation of various Italian compositiions.
The Schnitger Festival is an initiative of the Stichting Groningen Orgelstad. It is the foundation’s goal to improve and increase the number of organ events in the city of Groningen, with the emphasis on Baroque music in which Groningen's organs play a prominent role.
