Summery Organ Concerts

In June and July Aa Church organist Peter Westerbrink presents a series of five concerts on the Aa Church's famous Schnitger organ. All five concerts take place on Monday evenings.

29 June: Kei Koito (Lausanne - Switzerland)
Kei Koito from Lausanne opens the international summer series 2015 with a concert featuring works for organ by Johann Sebastian  Bach.

This internationally acclaimed concert organist is combining her concert in Groningen with recording sessions for her newest CD on the famous Schnitger organ in the Aa Church.

6 July: Peter Westerbrink (Noordbroek)
Peter Westerbrink, who has been titulair organist at the Der Aa Church since 1992, combines Buxtehude's majestic Te Deum Laudamus with the minimalist style Laudate Dominum by Jan Welmers from 1979. Also cheerful dances from the Susanne van Soldt manuscript 915990, music by Wilhelm Karges and five-part variations on Nun freut euch, lieben Christen G'mein from the 17th century.

13 July: Martin Rost (Stralsund - Germany)
The organist of the famous reconstructed Stellwagen organ (1659) in the St. Marienkirche in Stralsund on the Ostsee comes to Groningen with music from the North-German school of organ music.

20 July: Arjen Leistra (Schiedam)
This is Arjen Leistra's first performance in Groningen. This organ virtuoso from Schiedam is the organist at Schiedam's Grote Kerk. In the Aa Church he will perform an exciting programme in which works from the French (Vierne, Guilman) and German (Reger) Romantic era are combined with four works by Bach, including the first Triosonata and the Fantasia und Fuge in g BWV 542.

27 July: Leonore Lub (Noordbroek)
The summer series concludes with a concert by Leonore Lub. In 1990 she earned her Master's diploma with a concert on the then recently reinstated organ in the Aa Church. She is also the organist of another famous Schnitger organ, the organ at the church in Noordbroek. A programme of contrasts: as well as Weckmann's well-known Magnificat Secundi Toni and the Praeludium und Fuge in D BWV 532 by Bach she will perform Alain's impressionistic Suite and Mendelssohn's exuberant fifth Organ Sonata.

Time: 8 p.m.
Admission: € 10 (tickets can be bought at the entrance to the church prior to the concert)
