The Amshoff in Kiel-Windeweer, close to the town of Zuidlaren, has been a restaurant for many years now, but it was once a church. The church and rectory were built in 1755 by the city of Groningen for the workers who were reclaiming the surrounding peat lands. Nowadays visitors are welcomed by Jan Stams and Marola Claessen. They run an excellent kitchen, as well as meeting room facilities and two spacious guest rooms that offer a view of the lovely English garden. De Amshoff is also licensed for marriage ceremonies; the modern amenities and idyllic surroundings make it one of the most popular wedding venues in the area.
The Amshoff has several different spaces: a pleasant restaurant with an open plan kitchen, the former church hall for large receptions, a breakfast room which is also used for holding meetings, and two beautiful hotel rooms.
