The church in Klein Wetsinge wins important architecture prize
In May the church in Klein Wetsinge was voted BNA Building of the Year 2016. The church was renovated by Jelle de Jong architects at the request of the Stichting Oude Groninger Kerken, the Foundation for Historic Churches in Groningen. It was awarded the Building of the Year Prize in the category ‘Liveability and Social Cohesion’ by BNA, the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects.
The church in Klein Wetsinge is located halfway between the towns of Sauwerd and Winsum and has beautiful views of the scenic Reitdiep area. Visitors are cordially welcomed by managers Nicolaas and Inez Geenen. The church, which dates from 1840, was restored to its former glory in 2014 and is now ultimately suitable for meetings, lectures, concerts and receptions. Dinners and cookery workshops can also be given there. Come and enjoy the excellent local culinary products on offer here.
The church is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Drop in for a delicious piece of pie, lunch or a drink. (Check with Inez or Nicolaas Geenen if you want to make sure the church is not rented for a private function: 06-54685405)
The church hall has a pleasant ambiance and features a beautiful vaulted wooden ceiling and an exceptional pulpit. There are also two separate rooms that are perfect for meetings or smaller gatherings.
